Der Day of Gaming!

So Sunday was 12 solid hours of gaming for me. Whew-hoo!
Started the morning of pretending to be vampire. I feel a little bad because one of the other PC's character had to leave the city because of a combination of his character's actions and my character's reaction to it. We had a talk about possibly resolving it, but the player was actually quite open to making a new character. This will probably be a good thing, as the group dynamic has not had the best party-sticky. We've got me, a Ventrue, a Brujah, he was a Nosferatu who was trying to be a Ventrue, and the possible re-incarnation of a Cappodocian who is working his way up to being a mage, probably. So...yeah, a weird party anyway, but the Nos and the human pretty much couldn't stand each other to start with, and it was hard to include the human on...anything really as it was. The Ventrue and the Brujah couldn't either, but it quickly became one of those love-hate things where we hated each other out of principle but actually got along okay, and recognize that each is really good at the things the other is really bad at. We're not sure what the new character will be, possibly a Malk, so we'll see how that goes.
Then in the evening it was Session #1 of Orpheus. Orpheus, formost those of you who don't know, is White Wolf's re-vamp of ghosts in the WoD. While their first attempt at this, Wraith, was a serious flop, Orpheus is a home run. A self-contained plot in six books, the game is geared to be at its most enjoyable when run by someone familiar with all the books (and their overarching storyline) but played by people who don't know any of it, really. The PC's are in a world that doesn't know much about ghosts, and from what I understand there are going to be a LOT of twists. Most ghosts are not very powerful on their own, but there are some, called Specters, who are all twisted and evil and Matrix-Agent AAAH RUN AWAY scary. It's a little bit Ghost Busters meets X-files meets the Sixth Sense, with a a dollop of Silent Hill tossed in there for sheer unadulterated creepy. There's a good review of it here, on RPG.net
As far as first sessions go, this one was pretty good. We're still learning our characters, our abilities and the world, so the rp was not as free-flowing as this group can be when it gets going, but the foundation is definitely there and we're all into the plot and the group that we have to work with. I'm playing Dr. Goodman, a true ghost and the spirit of a cellular biologist. She is definately the weakest character when it comes to fighting (I am personally wretched at making tanks), but good for very methodically figuring things out. This will be a challenge for me, because I personally tend to be intuitive and social based, while she has low Wits and doesn't get people, so I'll have to remember to make rolls to make sure that she figures out what I have figured out. She's a haunter, and can possess objects such as cars (v. useful) and even entire rooms or buildings.
We've got another ghost, Enzo (whose name is much longer and Itallian) a will-o-the-whisp who's a greasy schmoozer of a guy and is going to have to learn to play well with others the hard way. He can teleport short distances and create a ghostly allure to charm others. We also have two poltergeists who are projectors - people who are still alive but can meditate and project their spirits out of their bodies. Poltergeists are, unsurprisingly, the tanks of the Orpheus world and can pick up and throw things, knock stuff down and generally tear shit up. Terence O'Donnel is an ex-soldier and cop, who is the most wholesome and personable of the group, but also the only one with actual experience in a combat situation. Last but never least is Dr. Conrad Banks, a bossy professor of ethics who was recently in a car accident and will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He's very good at being loud and decisive, which is useful in a beurocratic sense, but he applies this skill even to situations where he has no idea what he's talking about. Also associated with our group but not at this session will be a reporter, who I don't know much about. There were enough people who wanted to play that there is a full second group that will run parallel to ours.
Our first mission was to go check out a club where ghostly activity had been seen. We were just supposed to look the place over and see if the reports had any truth to them, and found evidence of up to 4 different ghosts, (including a breathing couch O_o) one of which was a Specter so we high-tailed it home. Session ended there, so we'll see what the next step will be next session. It was cool.
