This post is for a few specific people, namely
ninjahijinx,
maastrictian, and the lovely Ms.
kleenestar. The rest of you may move happily along up your flists, or go have a hearty chuckle.
Alrighty! Since y'all need to meet each other, and we all visit LJ and I know you guys read this, I am going to introduce you through the power of the internets!
Jess, Chris, meet Tod. Tod, meet Jess and Chris.
Tod is a veteran rper as both a PC and a storyteller, and works for a company that runs "quests" for children and pre-teens in a loosely DnD sort of way. He is interested in writing his own novels, continuing his education and exploring other options and opportunities that will allow him to continue working with kids, teaching, and not having to make sandwiches or bus tables. He's also a very cool artist and enjoys history, dinosaurs, H. P. Lovecraft and comics. His cat's name is Athena.
Chris, a programmer with a degree in Paleontology, is also an excellent storyteller and rper, and has written and been published as a game designer. He is interested in history, dinosaurs, writing, cooking, Sex and the City, and is always looking for new games to play and stories to tell. His cat's name is Lyra.
Jess is a published writer and game designer, and recently won first place in a 24 hour video game design competition along with some of our other friends. She is in the process of completing her MA in Communication and Education with a focus on interactive storytelling. Her interests include reading everything ever published ever, story craft and telling, programming, learning, fostering connections and creativity, and generally being awesome. She and Chris have ST-fu like holy crap, and I mean that in the Foucaltian sense. Her cat's name is Trouble.
I encourage you all to expand on these brief introductions, point out whole new things, share cool stuff, and ask each other questions. Also, fear gas.

Date: 2006-03-29 06:20 am (UTC)For the record, I've already got my Masters and am going for a PhD in Cognitive Psychology (as my Communication, Computing & Technology program does not offer a PhD - a fact which I am muchly sad about). I spend a lot of time thinking about games, playing games, inventing games, making up stories, reading stories, watching stories, analyzing stories, and I really want to get good at improv theater.
. . . this is so weird, I feel such pressure. I hate trying to sum myself up, except with my little catchphrase of "stories . games . communities" so maybe I should stop. Let's try a different tack, shall we?
Hey Tod, what's the most interesting thing you're doing/thinking about right now? For me, I'm running a game of Lexicon (you're invited) and thinking about formal vs. experiential definitions of games and trying to write a book chapter proposal, any of which I will rant about at length if you offer me even a little incentive. Now it's your turn - tell me the awesome thing you can't get out of your head.
By the way, I really like that piece you did with the stamped background. Teh neat.

Date: 2006-03-29 05:16 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, I'm going to my cousin's wedding on Sunday. Wish we could do improv there, as it's likely to be impressively boring. Sigh.

Date: 2006-03-29 02:59 pm (UTC)Abby's bio of me is pretty acurate:
My degree is actually in Biology, simply because my university didn't offer a Paleo option :) But the classes I focused on were Paleo specific. And also CS, for some strange reason.
My published work includes an article for Pyramid Magazine, a Godlike scenario for Arc Dream, a Deleria book with Phil Brucato and Jess, and an article for the Harvard International Review. And by "includes" I mean "entirely consists of".
Current history interests are Ancient Rome, Middle Ages Venice, and World War Two in Europe.
As for writing, I've just started a project to write 250 words every day, which has been a big challenge.
I'm more into Gilmore Girls at the moment rather than Sex and the City, but that's ok. I do have a great idea for a Sex and the City RPG...
Abby was far too kind to mention my weaknesses.
I can't spell. Even a little. This is a big problem for a writer!
I'm often careless when it comes to doing things I should do rather than I want to do.
I play way too much World of Warcraft.
